Loose Ends is First 9/26/05 Contact:
Lorene McMurrin Salem, Oregon - Loose Ends, LLC is the first private company in the state to voluntarily work with Oregon Watershed to enhance Pringle Creek. There will be a Groundbreaking Ceremony on September 28th at 11:00 am at Loose Ends, 2064 Madrona Ave. SE, Salem, Oregon. Owners, Art and Sandi Reinke are establishing a visually appealing environment along the creek, inviting people to explore, relax and otherwise enjoy the waterway. There will be creative landscaping and “art in the garden”. By combining both the practical and the aesthetic, the environmental program will be more appealing to private property owners, who will be more eager to work for environmental goals. This action will also open the area to field trips for school children explaining the processes and goals of the creek enhancement program undertaken jointly by Oregon Watershed and Loose Ends. The joint goals of the two entities are to establish native vegetation along the creek bank and create a productive habitat for the native fish. According to Al White of Oregon Watershed, “the effect is on the stream and the fish. The great thing about that is the owner wanting to be involved. This is a win-win situation. Loose Ends wanted to do something to improve the creek and Oregon Watershed made it possible”. From the beginning, the City of Salem Public Works was centrally involved providing permits and part of the funding along with the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board. Students will be involved in the planting and monitoring from the Jane Goodall Environmental Middle School.
