RIBBON SHREDDER
The Designer Ribbon Shredder is a creative tool. Like any tool, the better you learn to use it, the more you will enjoy it. This booklet has been prepared to give you basic instructions, a few helpful hints, and some ideas that we have found for “shreds”. WHAT IT WILL WORK WITH Basically, the Designer Ribbon Shredder will work with any type of ribbon that “splits” lengthwise. Test ribbons by trying to make a short tear on one end. If the ribbon tears of “splits” easily, it will shred. Most true fabric ribbons are not suitable for shredding, but there are many ribbons available which shred beautifully. Polypropylene base ribbons shred easily, as do many other types of products, such as raffia, corn husks, and a variety of foliage material. 1.
Cut ribbon to desired length. If you wish, ribbon can be curled with
scissors at this time. Play with your Designer Ribbon Shredder. It is a design tool, and you are only limited by your own imagination. Lots of our ideas come from our customers, so let us know what you come up with! Gift wrapping will never be the same. “Shreds” can replace conventional bows and tissue in a number of ways: Use “shreds” in gift bags instead of colored tissue—by mixing, matching or color contrasting, you can create an infinite variety of special gift packages, without the fuss of wrapping. Use shiny “patent leather” paper wrap and pile a mound of brightly contrasting “shreds” on top. Leave a few un-shredded curls to vary texture. “Shreds” can be easily secured by using a few pieces of double sided tape. Leave a fancy gift box open. Left the gift peek out of a sea of “shreds” that cascades over the sides. A perfect hostess gift would be a bottle of good wine, nestled in burgundy and silver shreds in an inexpensive wine basket. Having a party? Shred uncut yards of different colored ribbons—leaving some curled, but un-shredded. Lightly tie all strands together, approximately 2-3”from one end. Now drape or swag this bright garland wherever you like—across walls, up banisters, over a table, etc. Balloon bouquets tied together with one strand of each “shred” create a very festive look. Use a pile of curly “shreds” in the center of your party table—add balloons, confetti, party favors, etc. “Shreds” can replace straw, excelsior, or tissue in any type of gift or food basket. Try using 2, 3 or more colors to accent the gifts or container. If you are using a basket with a handle, a few “shreds” wound up the side, over the handle and winding down is a nice replacement for the standard bow. A great summertime table centerpiece would be fresh veggies tucked in a nest of crisp white “shreds”. Helium filled balloons can have “shreds” placed inside before inflating for a fun look. Weave “shreds” through a braid, or wear in hair with combs, barrettes or pins. “Shreds” are wonderful for decorating a straw hat. Curled “shreds” can be gently anchored at a few points around the brim with regular glue or by using a hot glue gun, then allowed to cascade in curly profusion down the back of the hat. Mix in other ribbons for textural interest. “Shred flowers” can be made by shredding all but an inch on either end of a piece of ribbon approximately 6” long. Fold ends together, and then fold again lengthwise. Continue by rolling un-shredded end and floral taping. Depending on the number of loops, size of loops, and/or color of loops that you floral tape together, an endless variety of “flowers” can be created. Straight or curled shreds (un-looped) can also be added for textural variety. Use “shreds” glistening white, under the Christmas tree for “snow” to nestle the presents in. Drape a multi-colored “shred swag” through the Christmas tree. Decorate with tiny bird nests filled with “shreds”, tiny birds and itsy-bitsy eggs—allow some “shreds” to wisp out over the edge of nests. Bows can be tied in a shoelace manner with long ribbon strands that have been curled and shredded. Apply a “shred bow” to the side of a wreath, or weave “shreds” through any king of vine wreath. Use white “shreds” for a Santa’s beard, or anywhere you might use angel hair. The ultimate Easter Grass!! Don’t limit yourself to green—mix some spring pastels, add colored eggs and a bunny, in an Easter basket. Pink, Red and White mean Valentines Day. Nestle choice Valentine morsels in soft pink “shreds”, or maybe silver wrapped Candy Kisses in silver “shreds”. How about a witch wig of curly black “shreds”? Black and orange “shreds” webbed about a room for a Halloween party. Thanksgiving—have
brown and gold “shreds” pour out of a cornucopia filled
with Indian corn and gourds, for a harvest table. |
